Community Spotlight: The Chamber of Southern Arizona

Have you ever wondered how your fellow business leaders, non-profits, elected officials, or engaged community members use the MAP Dashboard to make informed decisions? Throughout the year, the Community Spotlight will highlight how members of the Southern Arizona community utilize the MAP. These stories will provide insights on how to get the most out of the MAP, and we also hope they will inspire you to use the site in new ways.

The Chamber of Southern Arizona's mission is to drive sustainable economic growth and job creation in Southern Arizona by uniting business advocacy and economic development strategies to foster a thriving business ecosystem. We aim to position Tucson and Southern Arizona as a leading economic hub through targeted business attraction, retention programs, talent development and small-business resources. Our focus includes competitive business practices, effective public policy advocacy and developing emerging business leaders.

The MAP Dashboard was a vital resource for the economic competitiveness report released in October 2024, which identified our key regional competitive opportunities. Indicators in the categories of economy, infrastructure, and workforce & demographics help illustrate both our strengths and areas for growth. We need to regularly assess our progress as a region by comparing the Tucson region to the competitive set of peer markets across the West. Access to both current and historical data enables us to see where we are making gains and where we must improve to enhance our economic competitiveness. With high-quality data from a trusted research institution like the University of Arizona, our region is better equipped to boost the economy and quality of life in Southern Arizona.
